    Bonjour,
    sorry about my English.
I'm transfering my father's 8mm movies to digital. In a sequence of is marriage, is young brother, who was filming, took an already used reel and filmed with it a second time.
The results is 2 movies juxtaposed at the same time.
Is there a software/filter or a way to sparate/restore the mixed movie in 2 separate movie?

    Thank you in advance.

Do you mean that he recorded new video on the tape where the wedding was recorded before? If so, the wedding part is erased. No way to restore it.

  3. Your subject title refers to "tape", but your comments about "2 movies juxtaposed at the same time" and "reel" suggest 8mm FILM, double-exposed, since a re-record to digital tape would (normally) completely erase the previous recording. There wouldn't be two different images at the same time.

Which is it? Film or digital video?

If it's film, I doubt there's anything you could do at the user level.

sorry if a was not clear. My english is poor.
The result is 2 movies at the same time. You see when my parents walk out of the church, and at the same time (when you concentrate, you can follow a "story") you see when they cut the cake at the reception.

    It's a 8mm kodakrome film.

With film, there is no easy way do do much of anything with the video. You might be able to go frame by frame and extract some frames that aren't completely obscured and extract a few frames, then process them in a photo editor to .jpg or similar to get something out of it. You would probably need to convert the video to a lossless format like HuffyUV or Lagarith, then you would be able to access each frame independently. However you do it, it will be a major project.

I would probably use VirtualDub with Lagarith myself. Then capture the good frames and use a graphic editor like Photoshop or similar to try to clean them up. You may be able to crop some of them to get something more usable. You may end up with a slideshow, but it's better than nothing.

  6. it sounds like this was a nasty case of what was known then as "back winding". I never say never, but you might be at a loss with what you want to do

I'm sure it can be fixed for a few million dollars by a large forensic A/V operation. But you at home? Never.

Cant be fixed, sounds like it was recorded over without erasing the previous track which is a camera problem.

that is what I tought first. I think i'm going to need a government subvention or something like that.

But thanks anyway guys. I was looking for a software tips. I'm more familiar with music and I tought it was maybe possible to isolate an "image", like you can isolate bass or the voice in a music piece with a equilazer.
