DVD Copy and Regional problems

Hey all, stumbled across this site whilst looking for some help files for my dvd drive and thought that this would be the best place to find out whats gone wrong. Sorry if i've posted this in the wrong place, or if it breaks any rules.

Whats Happened:

When i first got my DVD Drive (philips dvdrw416) i installed it as master on secondary ide cable with a cd burner as slave.

installed sonic cineplayer and nero burning which came with the drive. I could watch region 1 and 2 dvd's with no problems.

downloaded dvd shrink to create backups of some of the region 1 dvd's i had so i could play them on a different dvd players locked to region2. backup's were absolutly fine, no problems.

i had to re-install windows xp on my machine, which i did a couple of times, but no problems.

bought a geforce 5200 graphics card so i could play games like far cry and battlefield vietnam on my comp, but i got driver conflicts from my old vga driver. i tried uninstalling it but i kept losing display. so i copped out a re-installed xp again and it was all working fine

then i re-installed cine-player and dvd shrink, went to backup a movie and dvdshrink said that it couldnt continue as the disc was copy protected?? so instead i opted just to watch the movie and cine player said i was in the wrong region.

so i changed the region and watched the movie. then tested a region 2 disc and again i was asked to change the region. now i have 1 change left and i cant change it back to region 2!!!

this is in danger of becoming an essay with too much information so i'll outline my prob now:

my dvd drive will no longer play both r1 and r2 dvds and dvd shrink will no longer do any dvd movie backups. programmes such as dvd region killer work with the regional problems, but dvd region-free doesnt! please help me as im losing my mind over this!

Hi Stonebridger and welcome to the forum!

If your DVD-Player is locked to one region and you are trying to copy a different region disc, then it wont work. dvd region killer is a software solution for the region problems, but it doesn't work if your hardware (DVD-Player) is regioncoded.

DVD Region-Free should unlock your drive. Have you tested to switch between "Simulate DVD Drive as RPC 2" and "Simulate DVD Drive as RPC 1"?

wrong. Install dvddecrypter, you can make your discs region free. He did not have to change the region on the drive at all. My drive is region 1 and I was able to copy region 2 discs. You can do that with shrink as well.

thanks for replying, it's a mad problem eh?!? i'll give both those suggestions a go and see which works best, if at all.
