  1. Hello,

I'm having a problem with an AVI file - something obvious by the Subject of this message. Ok, let's go into the details. (I probably gave more info than needed, but it's better that way; if I want you to help me, I have to help you. And I would LOVE if someone, after reading my codecs "especifications", could tell me if I'm missing something):

    1) The file has 700 Mb.

    2) When I try to play it, I can hear (besides the original - and very good - audio of the file), a low sound in the background, like a beat. Tum-tum-tum-tum-tum. I guess it's a problem in the playback.

    3) The video is very slow and, as such, it soon gets "unsynchronized" with the audio.

    4) Those problems happen in my two players: BS and WMP.

    5) In AVICODEC, I get the following info:

    FILE - 700MB - AVI, 1 audio stream, quality 57%
    VIDEO - 580MB, 800Kbps, 25.0fps, resolution 592X320 (16:9) XVID=XVID Mpeg-4 Suportted (i.e.: I have the codec)
    AUDIO - 119MB, 164Kbps, 48000Hz, 2channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

    6) In GSPOT, I get the following:

    VIDEO - 4cc: xvid Name XviD Bitrate: 792Kb/s Qf 0,167 bits/pixels
    AUDIO - 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Bitrate 165 kb/s (82/ch, stereo) VBR LAME3.93

    After rendering (successfully!):
    Video: 4cc: XVID Audio: MPEGLAYER3 (MP3) (0x0055)
    Video path: (S) --> AVI Splitter --> XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> Overlay Mixer2 --> (R)
    Audio path: (S) --> AVI Splitter --> MPEG Layer-3 Decoder --> (R)

    7) I recently removed all my codecs and reinstalled:
    divx 3.11a
    divx 5.05
    ac3filter
    WM9 Codecs
    xvid - 04102002
    xvid - 1.0 - 09052004

    8) My Sounds and Media on Panel Control says:
    Video Codecs:
    Cinepak (TM)
    DIVX MPEG-4 Video Codec (Fast-motion)
    DIVX MPEG-4 Video Codec (Low-motion)
    Divx 5.0 Codec
    Indeo (TM) R.3.1
    Indeo (TM) R.3.2
    Indeo video 5.04
    Microsoft H.263 Video codec
    RLE
    XVID MPEG-4 Video Codec

    AudioCodecs:
    Codecs Lernout & Hauspie
Sipro Lab Telecom ACELP.net audio codec
    Microsoft IMA ADPCM Codec
    Microsoft ADPCM codec
    Microsoft GSM 6.10 audio codec
    Microsoft CCITT G.711 A-Law and U-Law codec
Software DSP Group TrueSpeech (TM) codec
    Microsoft G.723.1 codec
    Indeo audio software
    Voxware Audio codecs
Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec (professional)
    Windows Media Audio
    Divx Audio compressor
    Conversor PCM Microsoft

Well, that's it. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks!

Your audio is recorded at a variable bit rate (VBR) and this is causing your problems. Load the clip into VirtualDub. From the audio menu select Full Processing. From the file menu select save audio, and save it out as an uncompressed wave file. Assuming you don't have any bad frames in the video, you should now be able to reencode using the new audio file, and you should not have sync problems. As for the thumping - if it's in the audio, there isn't much you can do about it.

  3. Well, actually what I did was: I changed the 4cc for Divx and it solved the audio problem - but the video is still slow.

    Someone?
