This is another newbie question. I have a Sony Digital 8 TRV230 camera that is about 3 years old. It has Firewire and an internal converter. I can run my analog inputs to it to convert home movies to digital. Is an external converter (like the Canopus) that much better than what is in the Sony Camcorder?
Thanks, Steve

Most agree that a camera DV or and external DV converter are the same. Something like the ADVC-100 can also disable Macrovision, probably the main advantage. If you don't need to deal with MV, I would go with what you have.

Steve, you'll be fine with what you already have. I have a mini dv sony trv50 which also has a/d passthrough and it beats MV. So, it's quite possible that your D8 sony camcorder to be able to disable MV.
