I just captured video from my digital camcorder via firewire to my hard disk using VideoStudio 8. I want to use tmpegenc to encode the avi file to a vcd compatible mpeg. It gives me some error about not recognized avi file when I go to load avi file. How could I make it recognize the dv video avi file so I can continue? I've never had this problem before. Thanks.

If you install the Panasonic DV Codec, you can use TMPGEnc to encode it.

Can be found in the tools section.

  3. If the type captured is DV Type I you may get some problems with tmpgenc (may crash if you use VBR after a while). Usually I convert it first to type 2 using dvconverter found in tool section.

  4. One thing to add: some DV type I-II converter corrupt the sound (the canopus one usually has no sound after 4GB mark). So if you convert double-check the sound is correct for the entire file.
