  1. Previously I was using Adobe Premiere 6 and Windows ME, along with my Sony TRV17 DV Camcorder and whatever firewire-1394 card. Everything worked fine. I had also used some other programs and those worked too (Roxio EZ DVD Creator, ULead Studio).

Recently, I upgraded to WinXP so I could install Adobe Premiere Pro (v1.5).

Since then, I am unable to get my SonyDV to connect to a video editing program. Please help with suggestions.

My 1394 card says it's "working properly". I've tried updating drivers and unistalling and XP finds it again and reinstalls. All indications are all is working fine.

Furthermore, when I turn on my SonyDV, I can see XP recognizing that it is connected. It has a little icon in the lower right when I first connect that says "Digital Video Device". Also when I look into my Device Manager, under "Imaging devices" it lists "Sony DV Camcorder" when it's connected.

I have tried Premiere Pro multiple times to see if it would capture, but it always says "capture device is offline". The Capture Settings are set as "Recorder: DV/IEEE1394 Recorder". I have also changed the Device Control options to be for the Sony unit, but that didn't help. When I have the camcorder turned to the VCR position, Premiere often hangs (or runs really slow) until I turn the camcorder off again.

I have tried XP's Movie Maker and also my old Premiere 6, and neither of those work and Movie Maker also hangs/slows similar to Premiere when the camcorder is on.

What else can I try to help debug this issue? Everything on my computer seems to be in working order except this communication.

    Thanks!

  2. Turns out it was the Dlink 1394 card

XP said it was working fine, but maybe it just didn't like both the Sony and XP together. It worked with the Sony and ME, and maybe it would have worked with XP and other devices, but I didn't have any to test. Anyway, new 1394 card now and all is well

I am having a similar problem...

I was using Windows XP SP1 and Premier Pro 1.5 and capture through firewire card was fine with my Sony TRV 950E

I am now using Windows XP SP2 and Premier 2.0 and I cannot capture.. Just keeps saying "Device Offline!!"

Is there another way around this problem??

    What card did you buy??

    Many thanks....

  4. Not sure, it was over a year ago - I went to the local computer store and bought a cheap one that stated it worked with XP, which it did.
