MTV to launch its own line of condoms
Posted by on May 20, 2004 at 8:41 AM (printer friendly)

MTV has announced plans to launch its own line of condoms with German company Condomi, London's Financial Times reports. Bill Roedy, president of MTV Networks International, says the condoms will be available in stores frequented by young people, including Virgin Megastores and MAC Cosmetics, so that sexually active teens and young adults will be able to easily purchase them. "The idea is to try and take the embarrassment out of the purchase," he says of making the condoms available in youth-oriented retail outlets. The network hopes the condoms will especially appeal to young women who may be too embarrassed to buy condoms at a drugstore or to ask their physician for them.

  2. Hmmm.... buying condoms from a retail outlet that mostly hires hot, model types. Less embarassing...?

If the condoms suck as much as the station, then expect to see a population boost in 9 months!

  4. Virgin actually tried to launch their own condom range a few years ago however they used a shoddy condom manufacturer and it failed miserably.

It had to be downhill for MTV and the music video business. I mean, once you get mentioned in a Dire Straits song, how much higher can you go?

MTV went down once they had shows like The Real World taking over spots where they use to play music videos. I remember when you could turn on MTV at any time and see a music video, but now they have 1/2 hour blocks where they show the same videos they showed earlier.

I also remember when MTV would have made fun of bands such as N'Sync and Backstreet Boys, but now they play their videos over and over and forget about the real musicians.

Once people started yelling at MTV, "Hey you should change your name, you don't have music on your tv station anymore", they went and made MTV2 to play videos, but you have to sign up for it. Crap, Crap, Crap, Crap, Crap. MTV is a waste of time.

When MTV started giving serious playtime to Menudo, N'Stink and the Back-Door Boys, I decided I'll just wait for metal mania to come on and occasionally watch VH1 :P

That's how I watch all Beyonce, Brittney Spears, Christina Aguliera, Jessica Simpson,...etc, etc....videos.

I would rather watch 2 drunk turtles fornicating on a TV with Rabbit ears, getting a poor reception than watch MTV.
