I read the thread on how I need to be transferring in DMA mode. I had been using DVD Shrink and everything was great (14 mins/dvd rip). Suddenly yesterday, I was switched to PIO only and can't seem to get back into DMA, even through my BIOS. I am desperately seeking assistance as now, the rips are listing as 2 hours and 42 mins left. I've tried changing it in DEVICE MANAGER and the BIOS Setup but no luck. Did a previous DVD change my setting and should I reset my DVD region? I still have 4 changes left.

What O/S are you running?
Under W2k ...
Start ==> Control Panel. Open System ==> Hardware Tab ==> Device Manager.
Click on the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
Primary (& Secondary) IDE Channel ==> Advance Settings. Under Transfer Mode (Device 0 & Device 1) select "DMA if Available".
Restart Computer -
I've also read that sometimes you need to delete the IDE channel from hardware manager, reboot, and let them reinstall to regain DMA mode. It's an auto switch back when there are too many errors encountered, which happens often if you are ripping/burning.

Thanks for your replies. I'm using XP. I just took the easy way out and did a system restore. That did the trick. Now I'm just wondering how I (or if I even can) prevent this from happening again. Thanks again for your advice.
