  1. Does anyone know how to change the aspect ratio of a DVD movie (eg, Titanic) from 2.35:1 to 1.85:1

I want to actually crop the 2.35 video down to a 1.85 video and then burn it to a DVD-R disk.

I'm currently use DVD Shrink and was hoping theres another relatively simple program out there which will do this?

  2. Not that I'm aware of - you will have to re-encode. See the guides
on tmpgenc on the left hand side.

Why the hell would you want to?

For one thing, it will not make the video easier to encode. It will, in fact, make it harder. The greater the difference between the size of the video window and the size of the actual film, the more redundant space there is that compresses more easily than active image. You are therefore increasing the likelihood of compression artefacts.

You will also have to go through the entire film, shot by shot, adjusting which parts of the film you want to lose. I estimate you will get sick of this within five minutes. At the most.
