Hey everyone. I just got a new epson r200 because I was having problems with my dvd backups (and vcds) skipping/freezing. I was finally able to pinpoint it on the labels. That was definitely the answer as my non- labeled ridata dvd backups worked fine. I ventured into an epson r200. Now I've noticed my backups pixelating every 5-10 minutes. I was wondering if anyone experienced any problems with a disc printed on with the epson r200 . I was wondering if i can blame it on that, or should look at other things, such as my media and player. Thanks for the help! Here is what I use:

    Nec 2500-burner
    optodisc 4x dvd+r printable-blank dvd's
    Dvdshrink and NERO-programs to backup
    Samsung S222-Stand alone player

Thanks! Also, It doesn't seem to happen eveytime, and it can get worse at some parts of the movie then others.

  2. Play disk b4 printing .. print on it... then play disk again..pixellation ?

Also make sure the disk is dry

  3. I've never had any problems with discs printed on the R300. I'd be more willing to bet its a) Nero being a bitch b) bad media or c) your burner which is known to be picky about the media it uses.

I agree with the last post but I would like to share a crazy experimetn I did to test the label theory. I cut a label right down the middle and mounted it so i had a really unbalanced DVD. To my shop it played on all my machines ( 7 of them ). Figure that one out!!! I can't!!!
That did not keep me from buying and using an Epson R300 though. I print on Ritek GO4s although it looks as if you are prining on frosted glass and not on a solid white pigmented surface like on Memoxer printable CDs. Those look truly excellent.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

Toolman - that's funny, I actually prefer the printed surface of the G04's over the Memorex but I've had a BAD experience with two batches of the G04s that I bought (and won't try them again). I've never had any problems with my Memorex printables, so that's what I use now.

Did you try the suggestion of playing before printing ? and did it work ?

Looking at the last quote i would figure it just might be the compression on some of your backup's.
Have printed direct on to 100's of GO'4 and never had a problem, that wasnt related to something else....

Arighty, I haven't completely figured out the problem yet, but i am leading towards a media/player compatibility problem. I listed the experiments i've done so far below, and I think you can see why i have come to that conclusion. I need to do a few more tests before i know for sure:

(all different movies were used for each test)
1)Optodisc media, My Samsung S222 player, printed on- 2 With Pixelation Problems, 1 with no problem
2)Optodisc media, Friend's GPX dvd player, printed on - No Problem
3)Beall Media, My Samsung s222 player, not printed on- No Porblem

I am printing on the exact same BEall disc that had no problems, and will watch the whole movie again. If there is still no problems, then I think it was a media and player compatibility issue. If it does have problems, then i might be thinkin it is the printing. I'll keep you all updated on the results. Unfortunately my college finals are this week, so hopefully i'll be able to squeeze in another movie viewing soon =) Do you think my conclusion seems right based off the info i gave? Thanks for all the help

    Update:
Well, I have had no problems with either Beall or Verbatim printables on my player. So, it is not the epson r200 causing the problems, but a combo of media/player comapitbility. Optodiscs no good for me! Thanks for your help.

I find it interesting that printable discs with r200 printing do not skip, yet ones with labels do (as happened to me all the time). I think this might disprove that the ink has anything to do with the skipping on paper label discs. Someone needs to figure out the cause once and for all!

i don't think i have the scienitfic resources to figure out why paper labels cause pixellation. Besides, seems like 100's of people have experienced the problem, not just me, so someone else can pitch in to help.

THink a few already have if you have a search through.... Its more to do with the glue a label than the ink.
