  1. Posted this in the Capturing forum, didn't get any replies. Thought I'd try here, might get better results...

I'm perfectly happy with my current analog device (DVC 80) when it comes to ripping cartoons because of their simplistic video appearance. (I'm also VERY comfy with the Studio 8 that came with it, I know it very well by now.) But when it comes to ripping my old home movies, I want something better than 352x480 (VCD quality).

I was thinking of just going to the Dazzle DVC 150, which can capture higher at 480x480 (SVCD) and 720x480 (DVD).

My question is, for roughly the same amount of money (or less!), does anyone recommend a different device? Keep in mind, I don't have a dv-camcorder, I rip straight from VHS.

    Thanks.

VCD quality is 352x240. 352x480 is Half D1.

    Oops....I knew that.

Anyway, the DVC 80 retails for $69.99 USD. The DVC 150 goes for $149.99 USD.

I planned on selling my DVC 80 on eBay & using the money to probably buy the DVC 150 on eBay as well.

    Thanks.

  4. I bought the ATI TV Wonder Pro w/remote. had no problems with it at all. Some functions don't work because I'm not using an ATI video card, but video capture is great (DVD quality on my 2mhz AMD computer). The remote control that comes with it has been handy for many uses as well

I can't speak from personal experience(I own an ATI AGP capture card) but I haven't read very many good things about the ATI TV Wonder cards. On the other hand I've read nothing but good things about the Haupage WinTV PVR cards. Make sure you check out the "capture cards" link on the left side of this page.
