I was wondering if there are still alternatives to XBOX live out there (for the XBOX 1 not 360)? I dropped my subscription since I haven't really been playing my xbox all that much. But I'd still like to play online once in awhile. I still have my wireless adapter so I can do it easily.

I don't know how to do it or where to look but aren't there free alternatives to XBOX LIVE? If so where do I go? Do I need to download special software? Does the xbox need to be modded to do it?

Ok I downloaded xbconnect. I got my xbox back connected to my wireless router. I even got the xbconnect to find my console. It's the next steps I'm not sure about:

    Step four:
Assuming you have already created an account with XBConnect, login and on the top menu, select Options, General Options. With the Xbox still in the "Looking for games screen" click the FIND button in order to detect your Xbox.
    Note:
Depending on the system link game being used, it may be necessary to refresh the "Looking for games screen" in order to detect your Xbox.
    Step five:
Once your Xbox has been successfully detected, feel free to setup your other options to meet your personal preference. When you are ready to give a game a shot, select the "Refresh" button located on the left hand side of XBConnect. Find a server based on the game you are looking to play. Remember the lower the ping the better the chance of having a smoother game.
    Step six:
When the host has opened the game, it will then appear on your TV. Join the game and enjoy
Ok when the host has opened the game? Does that mean I'm waiting for the start of the game???

I went in Halo 2 to the system link option. Then I went to the "available games" screen. Is that where I wait for a game to start? Which screen do I use? My desktop pc is upstairs and my xbox is downstairs (hence the wireless part) so how do I set up it up so I don't need to be next to the pc? Do I join games on the pc then go wait for the game to start on the xbox?

Any more detail would help. Because I've got everything rigged up and it's just a matter of joining a game now. Looks nice if I can get it to work.
