  1. Using analogue video footage originally saved back to video tape from an old Videocam JVC GR-S77. I am converting through a Sony Digital Handycam PC105E to Windows XP using USB on Microsoft Movie maker as it does not support i.Link doing this or, using i.Link on the software ImageMixer Ver1.5 for Sony. It will transfer but only in Black and White - no colour. Does anyone know if better software will make a difference or is it that the original signal is not good enough. Caro

You are taking a big quality hit by using USB instead of i.link (aka FIREWIRE or IEEE 1394).

I also wouldn't be surprised if that has something to do with the fact that you are only getting B/W

If you have a FIREWIRE port then use it. There are freeware (or very cheap software) that you can use to capture.

If you don't have FIREWIRE then buy a PCI FIREWIRE card for your computer. Some are as cheap as $15.00

No excuse with a digital camera to use USB as it does not pass along full quality.

  3. Thanks but I used firewire with the SOny Software and that is still black and white. I only tried using the USB with the Microsoft Movie software because it does work using firewire, Both ways I only get black & white though. I really don't understand if it the signal being received is weak and that is why I get black and white or would better software make a difference. I don't want to spend a fortune on new software if that is not going to make a difference Caro
