  1. I got a video which is an AVI video and occupies about 3 dvds when I switch the format to mpeg 2 video, now, I noticed that the video would fit perfectly of I switched it to regular mpeg video, so I was wondering, what's the difference between mpeg 2 and mpeg? will I be able to watch my mpeg videos on...soppose a ps2, or is that only with mpeg? will somehow the quality be affected in some way at all?
    Thanks in advanced, Lucasiga

  2. How big is the 855 minute avi you must be using to have THAT much mpg2?

  3. what do you mean? everytime I want to convert a file that is an avi of about 700mb, it becomes a really big mpeg 2 file, like 4.5 gig file! isn't that normal?

What's the resolution of avi file ? If it is already VCD resolution, then you may as well stick with mpeg-1, as the quality wont improve much (or at all) going to full D1 mpeg-2.

And yes, 700 mb to 4.5gb sounds about right

  5. 4.5~ish gigs is one DVD, where do you get 3?

And the file size is dependent on the bitrate you use. You can turn a 30 meg avi into 4.5 gigs if you really wanted to. If you do 120 minutes at about 4200 for the bitrate, you'll fill up a dvd. If you do it at 12000kbps (which isn't possible as far as I know) you'd fill up 3 dvds.

If you're not doing anything screwy with the bitrate you're doing something screwy with your encoding settings.

  6. I think you are using tmpgenc to do your converting. When you select your avi it is set to the auto bitrate which is calculating the bitrate for a full dvd.

For each of your files third the bitrate which tmpgenc calculates. Once you have all three files take them through to tmpgenc dvd author and add the three files. Then author the dvd. When tmpgenc dvd author switches to the next file you will hardly notice a change (kind of like switching on dual layer dvd's). Once this is done burn with something like nero.

I've found that simply using a little K-Y will help it fit.
