    Hi,
I wanted to make an avi copy of my Scary Movie 1 dvd for the kids to watch over and over and over without scratching the original dvd like they often do.
The actual PAL movie is 720x440 so it would need croping 68 lines top and bottom. I only removed 64 leaving a tiny black line top and bottom.
I used VirtualDub with the xvid codec at 2000 bps and got a pretty good quality avi file of 1336MB.

The problem is that the image looks stretched something like 10% in the vertical. It is watchable but unpleasant.

How can I reencode the movie a correct aspect ratio without loosing image quality?

    thanks

Try using the resize filter and resize to 720x380. I'm just guessing because I don't know what the original aspect ratio is. Use the output pane to preview but you'll probably have to change the size to 50% to see the whole frame. If the aspect ratio still doesn't look right keep playing with the vertical resolution value in the resize filter.

  3. Another option would be to try the filter made by the VDubMod team.
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889&package_id=78077&release_id=158229

It lets you input the aspect ratio, supports Bicubic or Lanczos Resize, and can round off to the closest multiple of 16 (good for XviD encodes).

Simple and easy, give it a try.

Thanks for sharing the link. This filter sounds pretty sweet.
