  1. I've been searching for the answer to this, but can't find it.

Can I use DVDBackup, 0sex or MactheRipper to backup/decrypt a DVD from Region 2 on my Region 4 albook drive? I've tried without success.

And what do people think of the region-free firmware? Risky? or good?

Thanks for any tips, in advance.

    Cheers,
    Bruce

to mount the dvd is region free. To play the dvd in apple dvd player requires you region set your drive, which you have 5 times to do

but if you rip the dvd without opening it in dvd player you can have MTR set it to any region you want, or even region free

    then it will work anywhere.

Oh, for region free dvd playing, use VLC [www.videolan.org] instead of apple dvd player

Note that MTR doesn't work with DVDs from other regions on certain PowerBook drives, namely the UJ-815 and UJ-816 drives. For those, you have to install RPC1 (region-free) firmware, available here:
    http://superdrive.cynikal.net/
Then, you can use MTR to rip them, and change your drive's region as many times as you want using RegionX.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
