  1. How do I go about capturing a still image from a video clip? What tools will I need?

    For avi's and mpg files you can use Virtualdub MPEG2. Move the slider to the frame you want to grab, then go to the video menu and select "copy source frame to clipboard", then paste the image into your favorite photo editor.

    If you can play your clip in PowerDVD or WinDVD they both have screen capture options to save as jpeg or whatever.
    Some people also use virtualdub ( I believe they copy to the clipboard and paste into a picture editing application then save from there.)

    or virtualdubMOD , which saves it right to a targa file directly (or jpeg)
