  4. DivX is more efficient than MPEG-1, or the same quality file will compress to a smaller space with DivX (MPEG-4).

Your 800 MB file might just fit on a VCD. VideoCD don't store data the same way that data CD does, so an disc rated for 700 MB (CDFS) data holds just about 800 MB on a VideoCD.

You've heard of FAT32, and NTFS? Well CD's have file systems too!
Your standard data CD for your PC is on a file system called "CDFS", or "Compact Disc File System". FAT32 was something like "File Allocation Table 32-bit". NTFS stands for "New Technology File System".

I'm not sure what they call the VideoCD's file system.

Try Nero with a 700MB disc. It might just fit.

This doesn't quite explain the process you've taken. Are you saying that Nero is wrongly telling you that the .AVI is over 800MB? Or have you converted to VCD and now you have an MPEG that's 800MB or more?

How much more than 800MB is the file? If it's just a couple of MB over then you should have no trouble fitting it on a CD - either .AVI or VCD. If it's still in .AVI format, you might want to look at another thread I discussed overlarge .AVIs.

Are you trying to convert the file to a vcd using Nero? thats a terrible idea. assuming this is what you're trying to do, then try encoding it to vcd format using TMPGEnc, that way you can determine the file size of the outputted Mpeg file.

You can't convert with Nero. btnhe99 was talking about when he authors the file in Nero. Personally, I would use whatever encoder was suitable for my needs and author it with VCDEasy.

Not true. Nero has a built in mpeg encoder, though I believe the mpeg-2 encoder is a seperate plugin. I wouldn't use either because the quality is horrible, but it can be done.

    See? :P

You just can't encode with Nero! - You just CAN'T!!!

I was replying in terms of Nero Burning ROM, not the extra pile of extras that may semi work that they sell. (I wish they'd stick to what they were best at and make it work properly instead of... well, you know the story.)

Yes, you can encode with one of Nero's many extra programs/plugins but I didn't think about that due to having a serious attitude towards DV rather than the one-click-does-all perspective. Cheers for the reminder teegee420.
