  2. Are you talking about PCI slots? About 3-4" long, take internal expansion cards.

If so, how about a digital TV card? You could save the MPEG-2 stream directly to your hard drive and burn it to DVD for watching later. I want one of those, but I don't have the money.

  8. PCMCIA Card Slots.

Type I cards are RAM and/or ROM cards,

Type II cards are for things like modems and NICs, but you can also find 5GB hard drives in this configuration also. Type II cards may take up the entire PCMCIA bay even though they only plug into one slot.

Type III cards are big enough for larger hard drives, but they take up both slots (at least the ones I've seen do).

One of the slots is likely a CardBUS slot, a 32-bit, high-speed port that you could use for a PCMCIA video capture device.

They're also used as 'keys' to allow access to your computer. You carry your card with you, and the card plus a password combination allows you access to a given computer.

Just for reference, "PC Card" is the new name for "PCMCIA". PCMCIA is too hard for us dumb consumers to read or say, so the industry decided to rename them.

Don't forget MD. Why does everybody forget MD?

(IBM MicroDrive. 2.2GB drive that is about 3½ cm x 3½ cm. It's also known as the Postage Stamp Hard Drive...)
