  1. Helloi
Ive used MacTheRipper to archive a few of my DVD's. Id like to know how to take the DVD from the Mac to a MiniDV camera I have ( Canon Optura 300) and convert it to analog to make a VCR tape.

I do not have a stand alone DVD player which would do this.

iMove will export to the camera (firewire and then A/V plugs from camera to back of VCR), but won't play Video_TS files.

MacDVD player does not seem to have an export feature to the Firewire cable that connects to the camera,

    any ideas????

    thanks

it would be so easy to do with a stand alone DVD palyer, but don't have one.

    rotuts (Thanks)

I don't know what kind of Mac you have, but I can use my video-out adapter and an audio miniplug-to-RCA cable to send what's playing on the Mac to my TV. I suppose I could send it to the line inputs of a VCR instead.

  3. I have a G4 dual 1 GHZ. I understand the audio-out plugs, but where and what plug exactly do you use for the video out from the computer?

    thanks rotut

You should use Cinematize or DVDxDV to go directly from DVD to miniDV format, which you can then import into iMovie or FCP and export back to camera.

PowerBooks, G5s, many iBooks, eMacs, and newer iMacs have a port for an NTSC/PAL video adapter. Unfortunately that doesn't include yours. Outputting back to your DV camera is your best bet.

  6. I just picked up a Pyro A/V Link:
    http://www.adstech.com/products/API-752/intro/api752intro.asp?pid=API-752

which allows me to convert from analog to digital as well as from digital to analog. I have a Sony 8mm camera hooked up to this Pyro A/V Link, and then the converter is hooked up to the mac via firewire. Slick hardware and works great. Just one thing I've been trying to get to work was to get iChat to work along with this, and that I have already posted the question before. Instead of buying this directly from the seller, you could save going through Apple Store Hot Deals or Other World Computing.

I use a Canopus ADVC 100 analog to DV firewire bridge, and it works perfectly with iChat. If your converter imports in DV format (which I see it does according to that link you posted), and works with iMovie, it should be working with iChat too.

  8. Hello!

I have the same problem, except that instead of exporting to VHS I want to export from my powerbook to my DV camera (or VCR in any case) and then later import that to my laptop and burn the DVD as NTSC, region 1 or all regions. Can the apple video adapter be connected to my camera? It has a composite connector along with the AV cables.

I've read endless posts about PAL to NTSC, and I don't have the patience or the money :P. I just bought this dvd from Spain (region 4) for my boyfriend but both our dvd players won't play it.

I don't expect amazing quality, just as long as he can play it whenever he wants and be able to listen to it (because it's a concert) will be great.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thank you

Even if you capture it to your Mac, export it to your camera, re-import it, whatever, it will still be in PAL colorspace and framerates. Your best bet is to use something like MPEG2Works or something to do the PAL->NTSC conversion. This process has been covered before in other threads here.

hey if i were you i would just go get a el cheapo dvd player from walmart. What 50 bucks at the most! The way I look at it you will have to buy something inorder to do what you want, so why not just get a dvd player for your TV and save youself major headache

this is all assuming your mac has a dvd burner.

Not all TVs can play PAL content, regardless of the DVD player you get. Sometimes, the only option is to convert to NTSC. Exporting to camera and re-importing is not the answer, however.
