  1. So basically you play things off your computer with it? Seems expensive.

  2. Yeah. I saw somthing like it at buy.com that also had a DVD player in it for the same price. Right now I have a PC in the livingroom basicly doing the same thing, but something like this is a lot cheaper than a PC and doesn't need a monitor

  3. I have the Prismiq. It works, but is far from perfect. I guess that's what happens when one buys a first generation device.

The main reason I could see most people buying this thing is they want to play video off a computer onto a TV and not have to have a computer running noisily in the same room. My house is wired for networking, so I thought this would be the perfect device. My computer sits in the basement, and I can easily plug my Prismiq on the 2nd floor right into a network jack.

It actually plays both DivX and MPEG-1 & MPEG-2 pretty smoothly. The problem is that the quality of output of the video is mediocre at best. Even MPEG-2 files look poor and color distorted when compared to the original MPEG-2 file playing on the computer. Needless to say, DivX files, although viewable, look even worse. The device is not even DivX certifiied (or perhaps could not attain DivX certification, I don't know) and I can see why from the DivX file output onto my TV screen compared to the same file playing on my computer using DivX's movie player.

Perhaps the Liteon network-DVD player will have better output. I hope so, and will probably give it a try when it's out. Supposedly, that one is DivX certified, so hopefully the quality of playback will be much better.
