  1. Hi,

When I play back the MPG,(using POWER DVD), green blocks and other defects will occasionally pop up. If I rewind and play back the scene again, the green blocks may or may not be there.

Here is the process I used to rip

The DVD was not copy protected so I just used dvd2avi 1.76, TMPGEnc Plus (latest) and BBMPEG to remux and cut.

In TMPGEnc, I used a 2250 video bitrate and the default audio.

Also chose on the advanced" tab, "non-interlace (Progressive), then "Bottom first (field B), then "16:9 Display", then " Full screen (Keep aspect ratio)" (This was done to keep the black borders (widescreen))

After using just DVD2AVI and TMPG , I tried to cut the video using TMPG. But there were problems. For example, If I cut the MPG from start to 43 minutes in, there would be 43 minutes and 10 seconds of video but only 43 minutes of audio. Completely in sync but the extra 10 seconds of video had no audio.

So I did a simple demux in TMPG and remuxed and split in bbMPEG as per the doom9 FAQ.

    The results were good no problems with extra video on each cut BUT heres the problem;

    What is going on?
    Thanks

P.S. The movie was Friday the 13th part 2. I thought it came out okay.
This scene had green blocks and white blocks on the sheriffs face. But I played it back again it was fine ???

I had this same problem a while back. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail. I'm certain that it had something to do with other mpeg-2 decoders I had causing some kind of conflict. I ended up reformatting my drive and reinstalled the OS and I haven't had the problem since. Not much of a solution, but that's my sob story.

  3. Thanks,

I think the only MPG2 decoder I installed is the one that comes with Power DVD.

Another thing I should note. These things didn't happen before the MPG went through bbMPEG.

    UGH .. what a pain...

Hmmmmm. You wouldn't have the original mpeg would you? Any reason why you didn't cut the file with TMPGEnc instead of BBMPEG? Try running the problem file through "Merge and cut" and output a new mpeg. Maybe rewriting the header will help.

  5. I no longer have the original MPG.

At first, I tried to cut the MPG using TMPG. But there were problems. For example, If I cut the MPG from start to 43 minutes in, there would be 43 minutes and 10 seconds of video but only 43 minutes of audio. Completely in sync but the extra 10 seconds of video had no audio.

I also tried running the whole MPG through Merge and Cut, then tried cutting it at the 43 minute point and got the same results as mentioned above (the extra 10 seconds)

In the future you should use Womble MPEG VCR to do your cutting and joining. It's the best mpeg editor there is. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
