It's not a major catastrophe, but can anyone tell me why the picture on the dubbed dvd looks like it bleeds sometimes ?? I recorded some tennis matches to my hard drive and then dubbed to dvd-r---- the picture is completely different, not as smooth as on my hard drive. What can I do to fix that

You can start using better media blanks since this is a reoccuring problem with using cheap media...

  3. What media are you using? Try some Panasonic media for a test. What record speed did you use?

TDK media is usually pretty good, and I've never had a problem with it in my DMR-E80H. Of course, they could have changed, so trying another brand might be in order...

What mode are you using for dubbing (as opposed to recording to the HDD)?

Do regular (commercial) DVD's have any playback issues?

What does it do when you try recording to DVD-RAM and playing it back? How does the quality look?

I've never tried dubbing to dvd ram. I record in XP mode, and dub in EP since the matches are long.

That's your problem. EP mode on the Panasonics is 352x240 resolution.

I never use anything other than XP and SP mode for recording.

You're starting with an excellent quality recording on your HDD (XP mode) and reducing the quality substantially to get the longer times. This is the source of your problem. If you recorded to HDD at EP speed, you would see the same problem there.

For longer stuff, you can record at SP and get about 2 hours per DVD-R. If I need to go beyond 2 hours, I record to HDD and split the results onto two or more discs. For quality, XP is the way to go (but you only get 1 hour of video).
