Hi, ok, finally got my setup up and running -
the gear:
Athlon 1400mhz
DVDRW
DVD ROm
512 mb ram
100gb hard drive
ELSA ERAZOR 3 card, VIVO
Using TMPEnc, Virt Dub, Virtual VCR, Power DVD, DVD LAb, and a whole lot of other programs in various combinations, been trying to capture halfway decent quality analogue VCR stuff, do put onto DVD. I know obviously due to the basic nature of the source it`s not going to be great quality, but when trying to capture at 720 x 560, or whatever it was, it either freezes up after 3 mins or so ( virtual VCR ( which is a shame because it captures the best!) ), or is very jerky ( virtual dub, etc) Been experimenting with various settings, etc, but to no avail!
So, is it something simple, like not enough RAM, or am I trying to capture at too high a setting even though same thing happens at 640x480...I don`t want to go too low, as I`ll lose whatever quality I have!
Or am I simply trying to achieve something with gear that isn`t powerful enough?

Hi Punchline,
I second a visit to LordSmurf's site.
The following link is worth a read (it also contains links to other threads):

You're kinda question has been asked quite a few times over the last few months, so there's probably plenty of stuff out there - just gotta find it!
Your RAM should be enough. Your processor could be faster, but probably isn't the cause of your problem. So, is it something simple, like not enough RAM, or am I trying to capture at too high a setting even though same thing happens at 640x480...I don`t want to go too low, as I`ll lose whatever quality I have!
The resolution of analogue VCR is only 352 x 240, so capturing lower than 640 x 480 isn't going to be a problem. Read up on this in the link I gave above (and the threads it then links to).
Hope that helps. Good luck...There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
Carpe diem.
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.
