  1. I'm producing some DVD from my old Video8 movies.
    I have a Philips DVD951 player connected to a Pioneer decoder-amplifier
    for surround.
Regarding the audio on its digital output, the DVD951 allows the following
    choices:
    - none (disabled)
    - PCM only
    - All
For DTS-AC3 "All" must be selected. In "PCM only" no surround is
    produced.

    What happens:
    - if I produce a DVD with MPEG2.0 audio my player plays the audio
only if I select "PCM only" (no audio at all is "All" is selected)
    - if my DVD has LPCM2.0 audio there are no problems

I tried to upgrade the firmware to the latest 8.11 release I found, but
    nothing changes.

Someone is able to explain why? Is that a DVD951 feature
(I didn't tried yet with other players) ?

    Thanks a lot

  2. I think I have the answer.
The DVD951 player support also MPEG audio. My Pioneer decoder-amplifier
    does NOT support MPEG audio.
So, when I select "ALL" in the '951 audio digital out menu, the MPEG
audio is NOT decoded by the player, instead it is sent directly on the
digital out ---> the Pioneer decoder doesn't decode it.
If I select "PCM only", the player decodes the MPEG audio and the
resulting PCM digital audio is sent to the Pioneer box ---> it decodes!

    Bye ...
