I'm looking into buying a standealone dvd recorder. I'm basically going to use it like you would a vcr(record tv shows) I've seen many threads about recorders and all their added functions, but what I'm really looking for is something with vcr+ Plus or a similar tv guide for recording television shows that is included with the recorder......I've been looking into the philips dvdr75, which has vcr+ Plus, but forum member lordsmurf has mentioned to me that the video quality is medicore at best....so what I'm asking is if anyone knows of a recorder with this feature. Also, only looking for +rw/r formats, I find those work best for me......thx for any info that you can provide.....

Sorry for the aggrevating colors as it is 2am and I'm bored/tired and decided this is the time to use these options for the 1st time...

If you were willing to switch from DVD+R to DVD-R, I would strongly recommend the Panasonic DMR-E80H. I've had mine for several months now and love it. There's a sizable hard drive or you can record directly onto DVD-R or DVD-RAM. Recording quality is excellent at XP and SP! It has VCR Plus (although personally I find it easier to program in the time and channel instead of looking up a VCR Plus number). It totally replaced my VCR the instant I got it home. I've also used it to transfer old videotapes to DVD. It's the perfect machine for me.

For the record, I'd take the Philips over the Panasonic. See if SONY or PIONEER has such features. That'd be a good one to look at.

I'm fairly sure the LiteOn has no such feature, and I know my Apex does not. But they both have normal timers, which I use. Never used VCR+ even when I had it on a VCR.

And I agree that you should look for DVD+RW, but your choice in features (VCR+) may not make it possible.

Is VCR+ similar to G-Code? Are different systems used in different countries (Australia here)?

My Magnavox MDVDR500 has G-Code, and I was just lucky as I forgot to check when I bought it. I'm glad it has it, as I use it regularly.

I have one question though....off topic

How do you Highlight (Put white box around) my quote?
Either use the quote button at the top right which quotes the whole post, or highlight and copy a section of text, open "post reply" and click the "quote button. Paste text, hit "close tags". Go back and change "[ quote]" to "[ quote="person's name"]". Then the quote will say "Person's name wrote:" right above the white box.

My Panasonic E50 has VCR+ also.

Yep, it sets the times and the station. So I would expect a company to tailor their firmware for the country where the product is to be sold. G-Code for Australia, VCR+ for (US?)
