Real recently announced a Real10 Export plugin for OS X. Someone might care

Hmm... works pretty well, with nice looking video. Shame about the hideous Realplayer interface. I suppose for a PC compatibility emergency, it might come in useful some time.

Yeah I thought the quality was pretty good as well. I tried it on a Simpsons episode after reading about people raving over animation encoded to RV9. Better than xvid, so they say.

I found the playback to be very CPU intensive on my 667 G4 (it was basically at 100%) but that might be a RealPlayer problem more than anything else.

yeh alot of people have been raving about this crappy crappy format for animation for a long time, and upon testing this i stand by my rating of rm as the crappiest format on the planet, and comparable to winbloze media video and asf.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine

Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Withering my intuition leaving all these opportunities behind.

With more processing grunt, bigger hard drives and cheaper DVD-Rs, for my particular uses, I find myself moving away from these high-compression formats, anyway. If a lo-bit MPEG-2 is only 4-500KB/s with perfectly good quality why bother with the extra processing stage?

I fully agree mhar. I've been converting some simpsons episodes, as xvids they are about 240mb each at full resolution. If I convert to mpeg2 half D1 they are only 340mb each! I've gone with half D1, it's only a little bigger and I can directly play them on my standalone! Quality-wise I cant tell the difference, I'm loving it.

Bile, I mostly agree with you too. I cant really tell the difference in quality between rv10 and any of the mp4 variants, but the Real player stinks! I know which format I'll be watching on my laptop in future, and it's doesn't begin with R
