  1. Hi,

Hope this is the right forum. I recently had to rebuild my XP box. I have a sony dru500a. After loading the software on their disks, I followed their procedures for upgrades. (help->check for updates) . Instructions require the use of their update manager.

After downloading the most recent update manager 'Sonydrive_sum29.exe', I get the following error when trying to upgrade. 'The program was unable to connect to the update server, please check your network connection'. The network connection is fine, as evident by this post

Recordnow version: 4.50 Build 450B28a.501 (SNV)

Can anyone show me a light at the end of the tunnel?

    Thanks!

I have RecordNow DX version 4.61 installed, per a previous update made available to Sony users that received the bundled version. Sony's website currently indicates that a free update to 6.71 is available, and provides a link to a Sonic page:

    http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/recordnow.htm
    http://www.sonicjapan.co.jp/oem/sony/rnupdate_en.html

I also went through the step of loading the Update Manager, and am getting the same error of "...unable to connect to the update server..." when attempting to use the Help | Check for Updates option.

ZoneAlarm indicates that 63.151.110.101 is the destination site when attempting the update. If I ping this address, it times out. Tracert indicates this resolves to updates.sonic.com, and after 15 hops times out.

arhouse -- have you got any further with this? I've created an incident with Sonic, so will see what we get back...

As a follow-up to my previous post...

I actually did get a reply from Sonic...several days after submitting a support request. They sent me an email with the correct Sonic URL, with the necessary user name and password. I was then able to download the update of RecordNow v6.7.1, which is free to all Sony DVD±RW owners. You can send me a personal message if you still need the info.

I haven't installed the update yet, as I would like to first verify if the new version is better or worse than v4.61.

Could the problem be that recordnow's update server is down and that is why you can't connect to it or ping it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

It is possible. Not likely though. I wonder if they might have changed the IP Address of their update server though, and it is hard coded to check their old IP Address or something like that. I have seen problems like this in the past when companies have reconfigured their DNS server.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    As a longtime Sony DRU500 owner, I have 4.6.1 and 6.7.1. I prefer 4.6.1.

reading the 'features' of the newer version -- it has less features than the older version ...this is an update ?
