  1. Hi all!!

This forum is awesome!! Finally i´m able to post!!

    Let´s learn!! 8)

I´m a newbie on the dvd backup area. I´m trying to learn how to make good backups but it is not as easy as backing up cds.

This are the things i´m using to backup my dvds:. I have a Plextor 708A and i´m using ridata 2x. To "take out" the zones and dvds protection i use anydvd. To rip i´m using DVD X Copy Platinum, then i burn it with Dvd X copy or Easy Dvd/cd Creator.

This is my problem:. I made a backup of Pirates of the Caribbean and The four Feathers, no problems with the ripping and burning process, i were able to watch my backups in my home dvd but when i went to my friend house to see the dvds we only could watch The Four Feathers and the other dind´t work!! But the weird thing is that i went to my sisters house to try them, and there i were able to watch The Pirates of the Caribbean but The Four Feathers didn´t work!! How can this Happens if i used the same media for the two backups?? Is there some trick to backup a dvd that makes it readable in almost every home dvd player (dumb question but remember i´m a newbie )??

Oohhh and i tried the Four Feathers on another dvd player and i had a new problem, when i insert the dvd and put play the movie but it starts to skips chapter (from 1 to the end) fast as hell , so i can´t watch the movie either!! This is a media problem or with the dvd player that i tested??

Wich type of dvd shoul i use to backup movies, DVD+R or DVD-R?? Ridata or Ritek??

Offtopic:. I´m curious, the dvd9 is DVD+R, DVD-R or neither??

    Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum. I would suggest you use the "RECOMMENDED" brands of dvd media that Plextor supports.
    http://www.plextor.com/english/support/media_708.html

Ridata is Ritek. Ritek is listed in Plextor's "COMPATIBLE" brand. I use Ritek G04 DVD-R the orange top ones and have no problems playing it in different standalone dvd players. Try using DVD SHRINK to back up your dvds & use NERO to burn. Also you could use DVD DECRYPTER. Look at the TOOLS section to download those programs. They are freeware.
DVD X COPY isn't that great of a software to use to back up dvds.

DVD9 is a dual layer dvd disc. DVD5 is a single layer dvd disc.
DVD-R & DVD+R are both single layer dvd discs. I would recommend reading the guides listed to the left of this page.<<<<<<
