  1. A question for the Apple inclined amongst us, is Apple software pirated like its Windows counterpart?

I was just pondering this when I was talking with a friend about how Macs rarely get viruses because they only make up a small percent of the computer using population.

    Arrrrr
Software is software me hearty its all pirated just the same

Most people just dont take the time to write evil code to inject into apple software because they dont thinks its worth their time

But thats fine with me I haven't installed a virus scan program in a few years on my mac

On a side note someone did write the first worm for OS X that I know of (it attaches itself to mp3 files or aac files I hear)

Isn't this topic kind of on the line between what we can talk about, and what we can't?

Is the past, the Mac software was easy to pirate. But now some of it needs to phone home before the install will finish.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  5. I don't think it violates the forum rules.

I was merely pondering whether the "scene" exists because I've never seen a piece of pirated Apple software on the net compared to the mass amount available for Windows.

If it were asking specifics about where to get them or how to crack something then it would be a different story, thats just my thinking anyway.

anything is possible, on either platform.

but in respect to viruses, it could be the fact, like you said, no benefit of writing a virus that affects a smaller population of comptuers than if you write one for pc's

or it could be that its easier to write them for pc platorm than it is for osx.

either way, all i can say is im on my 6th mac and have yet to get any sort of virus software..... its just one of those things mac users dont think about

You wanna know what's even better.....

... You can't copy them on a Mac, you have to use a PC to copy Apple CD/DVD disks for Macs.

  12. Well Geoffrey Rush did seem to have an unnatural fascination with apples in "Pirates of the Carribean"...

I'll answer this, since I've tried it. No you can't. But Nero does one heck of a job on it. I've also had trouble copying the OSX 10.3 disks with a MAC, but once again, no problems using Nero. Might help if I had a real burning program on the Macs at work. We only have what comes as part of the OS, Toast (even though it comes from Roxio) might make life easier.

A well written mac virus could be devestating! all you guys out there with no protection - suddenly the TV news items aren't ready on time, the magazines are printing funny and Star Wars Episode Three is erased! so at least some good would come from it :P

(Except they used AMD chips for the last film so probably will for this one too)

FCP is the only one i know that wont copy over on a mac.
10.3 worked without a hitch for me. I have several macs and its faster to make duplicates of my OS disks for installing than to install one at a time.

all im pointing out is mac app disks do not require a PC to copy them.
    FCP is the exception.
