  1. I have an Avermedia DVD EZMaker card and NeoDVD to capture composite video from a camcorder and convert it to MPEG 2 format for DVD. The finished video is pretty good. However, in areas of the video where there is fast motion and/or lots of color, I'm noticing some distortion which look like compression artifacts (areas of video that look blocky and pixelated).

To resolve this problem, I wanted to capture the video in AVI format and compress it using another utility (I'm thinking another application might do a better job of compressing the video than NeoDVD). I tried IUVCR with the updated BTW drivers. However, the capture preview window in IUVCR only shows a green screen with intermittent blue lines. When I swiched back to the Avermedia drivers, I still had the same problem. I've tried other programs as well, such as Virtual DUB, and still have the same problem. Any ideas?

    Thanks

  2. Are you sure you have the AverMedia EZDVD card that uses the BT chipset? There are two versions of the card. Older versions use the BT878 and newer ones have the NEC7130. If your card has three inputs on the back then it's the BT version.

Also, make sure you have selected the correct input (composite/SVHS, etc.) in iuVCR. You may also have to use "Smart Tee" for preview.

I was using iuVCR with my EZDVD card (NEC7130 version) but it started acting up and I switched to VirtualVCR. You might want to check that out as well.

  3. I ran Bitspy, and here's the information about my card's chipset:

    Name:Avermedia DVDEzmaker
    Chip: Bt878 , Rev: 0x00

Looks like it has the BT878. I tried Virtual VCR and my video preview problems went away (thanks for the suggestion). However, when I tried capturing uncompressed video with Virtual VCR, the video lagged behind the audio (720 x 480, 25 FPM, YUV12). I also tried the RGB colour formats at 720 x 480 with the same result. If I try another resolution, such as 320 X 240 at RGB 555, the audio syncs perfectly with the video. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

  4. Make sure "Resample Audio Dynamically" is checked.

Settings - AV Sync Tab - Check *only* "Resample Audio" and select "Resample Audio Dynamically".

  5. What is and where can I get bitspy?

I have the AverMedia card and am wondering what chipset it is.

I am running WinXP and cannot get it to capture in VDub. It was working with VirtualVCR, but just this week it has stopped working. Now it starts capturing and suddenly stops with a vague error message.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What ideas do you have for fixing it?

    Mike
