Buying a monitor - advide needed (ViewSonic or Samsung)?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at two monitors around $140. They are both flat screen CRT, 17" ones that appear to be a great buy for the money. But, unfortunately, I can't make up my mind as to what one is the better monitor. I'm hoping someone with some experience in regards to specs or, ideally, through having owned one (or both) of these brands, can help me make an educated decision. I think they're both pretty safe buys, I just want to make the best purchase. I haven't ever known much about monitors so I'm not sure which name brand is more reliable - I obviously recognize Samsung but I don't know how their monitor reputation is. I have never heard of ViewSonic but they seem to be popular (plus I like the black color instead of the silver, but that's no big deal). Either will be an upgrade from my 1998 15" HP monitor! Agreed, I have two ViewSonic G90fb at home for my workstation. I have Sony FD Trinitron 21" monitors at work and one Samsung 21" and the Sonys have the Samsung beat, and my ViewSonics get just as good a picture as the Sonys do.
