I tried capturing 2 Care Bears videos to DVD using VirtualDub, TMPGEnc, TMPGEnc Sound Player(AC3 encoding), and TMPGEnc DVD Author. First off, the field order in TMPGEnc was wrong. I switched it to top field first and a small sample was OK all the way to DVD. After writing the whole DVD, I discovered that it went wrong 20-25 minutes into the video. It looks the same as when the wrong field order was chosen in TMPGEnc. It's very jerky. Is it possible that the field order changes on the tape? Is there a way to tell? Is there something in the software that can detect the field order and deal with it?
