Burn works on DVD-RW but not on DVD-R

I am burning avi's on to dvd & cannot get a DVD-R to work

I am converting from avi to mpeg with TMPGEnc, formatting to dvd standard with TMPGEnc Dvd author and burning with Nero 6.

I always burn on to a DVD-RW first in case something's not right, then when I confirm everything looks ok, I burn to DVD-R.

However, less than 50% of the DVD-R's work - they simply do not play on my dvd player.

I am using Maxell DVD-RW 4.7GB (version 1.1 DRW47.1P - yellow disc/box) and Maxell DVD-R 4.7 GB (DR-V47.MEL.1P - green box/disc)

I leave Nero open between -RW & -R burns & change nothing! - so in theory, the _r should work, if the -RW is verified ok.

My DVD player is a multi region Toshiba SD510e

DVD burner is a Pioneer A04, PC is a Dell p4, 3.0gig etc.etc.

Can anybody hel please - it's getting very frustrating & expensive making coasters!

Try it on a different DVD player (a friend's, family member's player). I suspect that you have a picky DVD player that just doesn't like your discs. You can also try a different brand of media and see if it works out better.
