If I capture 720x480 MPEG and encode it with TMPGEnc, can I set the output to 352x240 so that I can then burn the file and be able to put about 6 hours of VCD quality video onto one DVD? This seems simpler than the VCD to DVD procedures I've been reading about.

    Thanks.

  2. Yes you can. I would even try a half D1 resolution (352X480). Most DVD authoring progams will accept MPEG1 VCD Resolution (352X240) and MPEG2 resolutions (352X480 and 720X480). TMPGENC Dvd Author accepts all of these formats. I've never tried MPEG1 at 352X480 yet but I dont see why that wouldn't work either. And I think, I'm not positive, but I've heard that MPEG2 704X480 is a valid resolution. However I've never gotten an MPEG2 file to open properly in TMPGENC to re-encode even with the codecs that are out there. I ususally frameserve from the Virtual Dub MPEG2 Mod.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

I'm sorry....but I'm not seeing the logic in your question

If you can already "capture" in MPG, why would you then encode?

For 6 hours, capture in MPEG-2 with a 352 X 240 resolution at around 1250 Kbs , you don't need half D-1. These are perfectly acceptable specs in several authoring programs.
