Hey, check out this audio file. It is an audio for the intro to a movie. It has hisses and noise sounds, I am not 100% sure how to clean this up.

Can you give me some ideas on an approach to clean this file up? I am using sound forge ver.6

what do you think? How can I clean this puppy up? Pointers?

    THANKS!

  2. OK, I downloaded the clip and had a shot at cleaning it up with Cool Edit Pro (now Adobe Audition). I think I succeeded (after a lot of messing about), but I don't know how to upload it like you did - PM me with an e-mail address if you want and I'll send samples to you of the resulting files (about 550kb total, MP3).

    Here's roughly how it's done:

    - I upped the amplitude (as the soundtrack was quite quiet anyway) by 7.44dB - make sure this doesn't cause clipping later on in the film!
    - I then did a hiss reduction with a noise floor of 22dB
    - In Scientific Filters, go to Hiss Cut preset and set the cutoff to 7000Hz - this will rid you of that whine/whistle you can hear

That's it, cleaned up fairly nicely (in my opinion anyway). If you want, go to Amplitude --> Pan/Expand and tell it Max Expansion. This does something that makes the audio seem a lot nicer. Try it and see if it is to your taste.

Anyway, if you need the samples then PM me.

    Hope this helps,
