  1. I'm looking at buying an AGP video card in place of the integrated 64MB one in my Compaq S6300NX PC. I assume anything would be an upgrade but I don't want to break the bank on this purchase. I've been looking and this is the one I'm leaning towards:

    ATI RADEON 9200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit, TV-Out, 8X AGP

I just wondered if anyone here has some advice for ones in a similar price range that may be better... or perhaps reasons I should seriously stay away from this model.

Here's my situation - I like this card because it has composite video out in the form of RCA (I don't have units that can really support SVideo). I like that it has the 15-pin monitor jack - my new monitor will have the same. I like the price - not real cheap but certainly not expensive. I don't play many games... the only ones I own are older ones like Starfleet Academy, The X-Files, X-Wing Alliance, Jedi Knight II, and Rogue Squadrin. I use Photoshop, audio recording software, plan to do a little video with this machine but primarily do my video work on a Mac. I'd like the option of playing some newer games like Final Fantasy XI or something, but don't think I'll ever be a hard core gamer.

So based on my needs and my wallet I chose this card. Your feedback/advice will really help me make a confident decision. Thanks!

the R9200 isn't very good for current games, and will be no good at all for newer games.

this gives you an idea how it stacks up with other cards around today:

It'll do fine for what you want (and so will something like a geforce4 MX400, which will be a bit cheaper) but if you ever want to play games you'll need something better.

Edit: and that's not a very good price! shop around some more!
