Converting AVI to VCD or SVCD

Please help I wabt to be to able to convert avi files to vcd or svcd to play on my apex dvd home player i have tried this link but there are too many problems http://www.gkhull.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/avitosvcdguide.htm does someone know any easier way to do this without having to pay for expensive software. also can someone tell me how to upload an image to my posting

To put an image in:
Type in your post where the image should be. JPG,GIF and PNG are the allowed formats and the max file size is 50 KB. To add more images or update them, first post one image and then click on the EDIT button on your post.
Note! Replace filename.gif with the file name of the image and don't have any spaces in the filename. Don't use the Preview if you are uploading images.
