I capture with an ATI AIW 8500 card direct to Mpeg2 following Lordsmurf's guides. The results are fair, but for adjusting the video for reasonable results for TV playback of a burned DVD. My eyes tell me the monitor must be much too dark for reasonable TV results. Can anyone suggest some reproducible way of "profiling" the monitor screen for TV reproduction?

a computer monitor's video display is usually darker than that from a tv screen.
one simple way to 'calibrate' is to copy a short clip of the same material and then play on both screens, pausing both clips to the same spot - and then adjusting computer screen brightness to match...Always check helpfiles/instructions before leaping... -
Good idea, thanks for the reply. My PC work station is remote from my rear projection TV. Since the work station is also used for home business, I will not be able to move either.

If you can include a TV monitor in your editing set-up via TV out or thru a camcorder for viewing at your work station you will have a killer setup. I use an ATI AIW 7500 card and a Sony TRV 330 in varius setups. A 12" TV/VCR combo unit and a coarse 27" TV monitor with the PC monitor for the program. Be advised it only works when IT wants to. Finding the right setup can be fun and saving the setup seems impossible. So take notes if you do get something to work for you, also TV out from the ATI card seems to be a CPU hog and can lead to homocidal activity. GOOD LUCK
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?
