    Hi there,
I have been trying to edit out commercials on a dvdr recorded on a panasonic e30 using Movie factory2.

I have copied successfully this way however this is the first time I have attempted to edit a disc by using the
    "extract video" setting.

When I have completed the editing of the disc I have noticed it has increased the size from 4.2g to 5.6g???????
So obviously I cannot burn it.

    Can anyone please help.

    Regards

  2. I'm afraid Ulead DVD MovieFactory version 2.0 (full version) does not support the AC-3 DVD audio format utilized by the Panasonic recorders.

The only version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.0 that supports AC-3 DVD audio is the special "LE" version that ships with Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0.

    Which version are you using?

If you're using the full version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.0, have a look at the "disc creator" version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.0 for full AC-3 DVD audio support:

    Hi Specialist,
Thanks for your input. The problem I am having isn't so much audio issues
but one about the size of the segment of footage after I have extracted video via MF2.
I thought if you are removing segments of footage surely you are not going to increase the size of the file as I did.

All I want to do is edit some commercials out.
In the past if I have recorded something on the pan e30 then copied it
direct with no edits via computer through mf2 "edit disc or copy disc" it works everytime.

On this occasion when I have attempted to remove some of the footage
for some reason it has increased the size of the file (from 4.7 to 5.6g)

    This is my main problem.

  4. what he means (if I understand specialists answer) is that MF2 reencodes the audio during the entire process, which is the reason the file size is larger.

Try TMPGENC DVD Author. I do exactly what you are doing with my panny (I actually record to ram and do the final on the pc) E30. No problems whatsoever.

  5. Well, I can get you past the size estimate problem.

But what I can't do is give you AC-3 audio support in Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.0 - unless you're using the "LE" version that ships with Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.0.

If you're using the standard version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.0, you'll be able to edit - but the end result will be no SOUND because the Ulead program won't be able to decode/encode AC-3 audio.

Let's assume you're using the "Disc Creator" version of Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.0 that supports AC-3 sound.

In that case, you would click the second button in the lower left corner of the interface.

This button is called the PROJECT SETTINGS button.

After you click this button, the PROJECT SETTINGS pop-up menu will appear.

You will see a DO NOT CONVERT COMPLIANT FILES check box.

Do not check this box if your source files are not DVD compliant.

Do not check this box if your source files consume more than 4.37gb of space.

Check this box if your source files are DVD compliant and don't exceed 4.37gb.

Next click the CHANGE MPEG SETTINGS button.

After the pop-up appears, click the CUSTOMIZE option.

After the VIDEO SAVE OPTIONS pop-up menu appears, click the GENERAL and COMPRESSION tabs and choose your MPEG settings.

Do your source files exceed the 4.37gb limitation of a typical consumer DVD disc?

If so, adjust the GENERAL and COMPRESSION tabs so that your source video will be re-encoded to fit on the disc.

After you choose the appropriate encode settings and click the OK buttons, you will note the line at the bottom of the interface will correspond to your MPEG encoding choices.

Are your source files DVD compliant and do they not exceed 4.37gb in size?

Then choose settings that precisely *match* the properties of your source files and they won't be re-encoded.

    Hope this helps,

Please excuse my delay in responding. Have been away for a couple of days.
Thanks "The Specialist" for you last posting. I did have some success in reducing the size of the file by changing the settings, although it didn't reduce it by enough to burn onto disc I now know what I need to do.

I think as this is my main method of transfering footage to disc in via a set top recorder. I might invest in getting the new Movie Factory 3. I have been very pleased with ulead products up to date and if the new system is more user friendly with ac-3 audio this sounds like the way to go.

    Thanks Again
