  1. Hi, I am happily burning DVDs but I am just wondering what format is best to drop into Toast 6? I am currently running all my AVI's through DivX doctor which converts them into MOV files then i am encoding out of Toast so i can DVD2One if neccessary....the question is.....is it really necessary to run the AVIs through DivX doctor? i cant see any benefit in doing this and MOV files are substantially larger and eating up my disk space twice as fast. Thanks.

Toast may accept those avi files depending on their format. The reason for converting them is so that Toast has an easier time converting the video and the audio will sync perfectly in the final product.

Plus you get to delete the files once you burn, so why worry about the disk usage of it?

  3. Thanks, your right i should delete them to save on space. I will keep converting them using DivX Doc as before, was just getting lazy! Cheers.

whats the harm in trying.... a couple hours down if it doesnt work...
save as disk image and your not out a disk

id just try it and see what happens... if it sucks, hey you know that you have to go back to the way you have been doing it.

    just my 2 cents

  7. OK i couldnt see any major difference in quality and sync by encoding the 700 mb AVI in Toast, then burning straight from the Toast image, still takes almost 7 hours to save the Toast disk image though!

Is there a quicker solution or is patience the key to burning DVDs....

for kicks, try to run the same .avi though mpeg2works using its AVI to DVD function
you should get an output of a mpeg file, which you can then demux, author in sizzle and burn as dvd.

time that and see how it compares to toasts job

  9. Tried that, not alot of difference and plus I only have a demo version which only lets you create a 4:3 PAL DVD so i suppose il stick with the Toast method.

Ive heard that the new Toast 6 with Jam encodes the files straight away as you burn so you dont have to save the image file out, then burn and hence saving alot of aggravation. Can anyone confirm this
