  1. I'm trying to convert avi files to mpeg to make VCDs. The avis have subtitles hardcoded in. The conversion works fine, however, after burning (Toast 6.0) to disk and playing on the DVD player, the subtitles are too low.

I tried Video resize in the video tab several times to other sizes but by time get to disc, I get the SAME result. So does resize really scale down a file or not? If not, is there anything I can use?

I realize I could easily be doing something wrong... converting and trying to make VCDs is very new to me as is using OSX (10.2.6)

I know PC friends have avis with titles too low (if play as VCD on DVD player) unless resize (scale down) the files and they can EASILY do it using TMPGEnc ... WHY does this not seem possible with a Mac based program (without going to Adboe Premiere or Final Cut Pro which I don't have) ? ~_~

  2. You don't need to resize, you need to add black bars. You can do it by converting avi to mov with DivX Doctor II and adding a black image under the video with Quicktime Player. Then encode the resulting mov to VCD.

  3. Thank-you for the quick reply! Sorry if this sounds stupid, but why won't video resize work for what I want (why need to add the black bars) ?
And is Quick Time Pro a must in order to do the process you described?

  4. Resizing has no effect as VCD has a standardized size and any size will get converted back to the standard size.
