File name is D303 but after the flash it is actually reconized as A303
Someone report increased performance with DVD-RAM -
1.First burning attempt with new a303 firmware = coaster!!
2.Second burning ( after uninstall the lg 4040 from the device manager, and rebooting , so windows reinstall the drivers) = success!!
3 and 4 attempts , also succeded.
Maybe was a bad media or maybe the new firmware, but after reinstalling the drivers of the dvd, everything seems to be normal again.
Someone else experience the same ?? -
YAY! 'tis about time. Just yesterday I visited the LG site and was wondering when they were going to release new firmware
Edit:By the way...what kind of coaster? Did the disk not work? Did it give an error?-Yar, matey!- -
I looked at the firmware...the instructions seem to be in German (dont yell at me, I dont know German).
Also, the new firmware isnt on the LG site (at least not on the USA site).
So...will this harm my drive?-Yar, matey!- -
I have no problem with burning after the flash, the readme.txt is in german but the program is English so don't worry about it, I flashed mine yesterday and no problem at all. You can always flash it back to A302 if you don't like it.

I flashed the drive, but I still want to know what changed
I did a babelfish translation of the german text (babelfish.altavista.com), and the only thing it said was that it improved the recognition of hybrid disks. I was expecting a bit more...like 4x writing speed to 1x mediaHeh..that would be awesome. But oh well.
-Yar, matey!- -
thanks APVM, i wasnt shure about flash it back to a302. For now the new firmware is working okay.

Hmm...there seem to be a lot of giant blue smileys in this forum....they're invading! AHHHHH!
-Yar, matey!- -
I think the main improvement of A303 is the performance of DVD-RAM, someone report 20% increase in reading for those media.
-
Reading speed? Or reading quality? Or both? Im guessing speed. What they need to do is release a firmware that increases cd-writing quality at higher speeds....when I write at 12x on a cdrw, its unreadable
-Yar, matey!- -
i always use a cdrw CURSOR 12x, burnt at that speed and never had an issue. Readable here or in my pc´s friends.
-
Well....my cdrw is supposed to be 10x speed, but the drive writes at 12x to it. It cant be read when I write at 12x. However, I have cd-r's that are 16x but can be written to at 24x, and those work fine. Same with dvd's...they're 1x and they're written to at 2x, and work perfectly. It's just cdrw's

They removed the download link to get the firmware of the first post site .. anyone know why?

In the main news area it says this posted on tuesday the 16th, LG/HLDS GSA-4040B - A303 Patch by The Dangerous Brothers ... also the german lg site still has the patch on the site.. so I dont know why they took the link of thiers http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php anyone know why?
-
why not go to the LG Site, www.lge.com and get the firmware update like I did ?
it says:
"New firmware Ver A301 for only GSA-4040B(4X DVD-Writer)
Improvement Point:
Enhanced recording Speed of some DVD-R media;Princo and SKC co, LTD" -
Well, A303's out on the LG page, now. www.lge.com
Sorry, dont feel like looking for a direct link :P-Yar, matey!-
