  1. Hi
I can't open any kind of avi file with virtual dub
I always get an error message like this one (even with file I can watch with no problem with a player)

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DIV3' (Microsoft High speed MPEG-4 V3 [Hack: DivX Low-Motion])
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

How can i fix this ?

I couldn't open any avi file with VirtualDub
I was getting this error message.
"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DVSD" (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a video for Windows (VFW) compatible Codec to decompress Video.
DirectShow Codecs , such as those used for Windows Media Player are not suitable"

I install_panvfwdv.htm and my problem went away.

Well, the guy above you has lots of posts. I'm guessing that he might have a clue

If you feel like you don't wanna add extra software/apps to your collection, the next course of action would be to install the proper codec..

Off the top of my head, i'm guessing that most of your problems would be solved by loading the DivX codec...

  10. I tought he was answering to thesnow

So you think inrtalling Divx Codec would solve my problem even if i can watch the video with no problem in winodws media player ?

Is there a version of these codec with no spyware in it ?

Sounds like a guessing game to me. Maybe installing a clusterfuck of codecs will solve it.

The problem is that the avi file you are trying to open is broken or incomplete. Normally this would not effect VirtualDub, but once you put a DV codec like the Panasonic DV codec on you PC, Virtual dub stops seeing broken avis.
