*WARNING*(Dumb Newbie) After using mac the the ripper for two DVD's Stuart Little 2 and Gigantor which had about 60 files in their VIDEO_TS folders, I opened the folder onto DVD2one it only had 5 files in it (where did they go??) can I keep going or what? I have backed up most of my movies and they all work perfect NOW, after reading a great article by galactica "How to properly burn DVD2one DVD's using Toast 6 [updated]" that was great it filled in all the blanks that newbies dont know about.

did you choose something other than Extract Complete Disc?

if so you wont get a complete copy of the dvd over. Instead you will get whatever you asked it to copy

toss what you got, ensure you have it set to COMPLETE DISC
and rerun it then continue as noted in the sticky...

DVD2One only displays the number of tracks, not all the files. If you want to see the number of files, open the VIDEO_TS folder that was saved in the Save location you set in MTR in the Finder, and make sure all the files are there. If not, make sure you're using Complete Disc mode, and that there weren't any errors during extraction. You can tell if there were errors if the size of the output folder (the one saved to your hard drive) is smaller than the total original DVD size. Errors are printed out in the info drawer that gets displayed in MTR when you hit the "i" button.

Thanks WiseWeasle, and galactica I did select extract whole disc, the last four lines of the info drawer had:
Extracting Vob Number(3 of 4) of title set (1 of 14) of STUART_LITTLE_2
    error reading MENU VOB
Mirror of Title set 1 faild
    Mirror of DVD faild
I tried DVDBackup and that asks if I want to skip files? can you give me more advice or a post where the information can be found?

It seems there was a problem decrypting that DVD. You could try the latest version of MTR, 1.5.6, but I think it will be the same problem. We're working on version 2.0, which will hopefully solve many of these incompatibilities. Stay tuned.

If there's 50-something files on it there might be some PC-only stuff (autorun etc).

While MTR usually works on these, DVDBackup fails with the error you described. You could try 0sex in 'disk image' mode, that usually does the trick for me.

It ended up OK after movie only mode, it did have autorun on the disc, it also had a lot of scratches on the disc, can scratches also be part of the problem?

They can, but MTR would usually display a bus error if that was the case. It seems like there was just a tricky file on there, that the others had problems with too. OSEx is also a good one to try, or else you can just stick with main feature only, if that's all you need.

  9. Hi,Wiseweasel,
I posted in another thread about how mactheripper can underrip and unless i check the folder size ,i would miss what happened.
Well i use the i information and yes, there are times that there is absolutely no hint that error had happened .Last night i had a disc that got underripped by 2 G, using version 1.5.6, then i took the same disc and use the last version of dvdbackup, and the rip was complete.
Caveat Emptor: Mactheripper is absolutely my number one ripping tool.
But should keep a copy of dvdbackup, and always check the folder size as the only reliable way.Suggestion:the next version of Mactheripper, is it possible, to show in the application, one additional box, the file size of the target folder? Then we can absolutely save some time from selecting the target folder and then get inform.

Actually, the next version (2.0) will display a dialog showing if processing completed successfully, or if there was an error, and it will report the error text. I'll see if we can change the size reported in the title bar depending on which extraction mode is selected, as that would be more informative.

That would be a great addition to 2.0.

Also, will it be possible to include a time-to-completion countdown? I think that would be useful.

    Keep up the good work.
