Mac The Ripper Help

Hey all I'm new to the forum...

I've been ripping DVD's with Mac the Ripper and only want the main feature with 1 sound track ie. English, but when I do the program creates 2 seperate files - one for video with the extension .mpv and the other for sound with the extension .ac1. The size of each movie comes to a total of around 7GB. I've looked for other programs to merge the 2 files together and shrink them down to size but can't find any that support these file types.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can do this with the end result being an .avi and the file size under 1GB? I also have a couple .vob files which I would also like to shrink.

I can use software for both Mac and PC it isn't a problem.

Any advice would be welcome.

What I've done:

1. Rip the Movie with MTR 3.0r14m as Main Feature Only rip.

2. Open the File in MpegStreamclip with the QT Mpeg-2 add on Codec.
Fix timecode breaks, export to DV Stream.

3. Drop the DV Stream into VisualHub (FilmConverter should also work)
and set the .avi parameters I need ( 640 x 480, audio pref, etc)
and let it do it's magic.

Handbrake has already been suggested -- it's a terrific app. Another is D-Vision 3. It will produce an XviD or DivX .avi of high quality. Like Handbrake, it's free. Its interface is well thought out; very clean, logical and easy to use. Pretty much a single-click app.

Try one or both, pick the one you like. Keep both.

What version of MTR are you using, please?

You are obviously selecting "separate streams" when all you have
to do is select which language to use.

Properly done, MTR's output pretty much looks like a DVD (with a
folder on your HD replacing the actual disc): a VIDEO_TS folder
and maybe an AUDIO_TS folder.
