    Hi,

    I have a file that is a DIVX file, 512x384, 192kb AC3 2 Channel Audio.

Video Bitrate is 792k. Total running time is 46 minutes.

I am using TMPG Plus to convert the AVI to DVD video format. It appears i had to increase the resolution to the standard 720x576 and set the video bitrate to 2500 CBR. Obviously it got a little blocky from the increase in resolution.

Can someone who knows all about this advice me on what resolution the video should be set at to be compatible when i burn it to dvd for standard dvd players. and the Video bitrate too. I notice that my converted AVI file burnt to DVD is very blocky, where as the original Avi has no artifacts whatsoever.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

46 min is short. Try 6000kbps and/or two pass vbr

I usually encode avi of that type at 352x480,doesnt need to be full dvd with that low bitrate, looks better also.

352x576 (PAL 1/2 DVD) is probably better a better res for your mpeg. Upsizing is usually not recommended, better to downsize a little. And use the highest bitrate possible, 2500 is Ok for 1/2 DVD...double that for full DVD.

  6. If you read DVDR at left <- , you'll find that 352x576 is a valid PAL resolution. Your conversion will look much better, particularly at that bitrate. (And why did it have to be 2,500?) Unlock the template in TMPGEnc and reset to 352x576, don't worry if the preview doesn't look right. Or do it as 352x288.

As for "someone who knows all about this", that's not me! Always something to learn. 8)

EDIT: Sheesh, you guys are too quick.

Better check the framerate of the avi first before you convert and stick with it.

  8. Agree with Foo. Increase your birate. Use the birate calculator on this site to give you an estimate. Also for testing purposes, you don't have to encode the entire movie. In Tmpgenc Plus, under the Mpeg setting-Advanced-Source Range, you can select a short portion for testing. Use RW for testing.
