The philips claims that it can clean and correct grainy videos for better than original recordings. The panasonic seems to have more filters for noise reduction than video cleaning, but it still makes the same better than original recording claim. I always thought your quality could never be better than your source. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

I cant comment on these particular machines but i did have the panny E100 for a week (before i took it back with a fault). i was amazed that the machine really did improve the quality of old videos. assuming the E60 has the same dvd innards then it should be as good. cant comment on the philips i'm afraid.

I have a DMSE50 and a cheapo Mico from Sainsburys, which I believe is based around Philips machines. The E50 is a great machine, but I found the Mico to be a better machine for vhs transfers (at least if the source material is not top notch). It will also accept pal 60 signals when transferring NTSC stuff. The E50 requires a true NTSC signal from the vcr. There are probably many who will disagree with me, but that's how I have found it to be. Hope it helps.

I had the Philips DVDR75 and I took it back and exchanged it for the Panny DMR-E50. The Panny is a much more reliable recorder than the Philips. The Panny has a true TBC, whereas the Philips has a 'virtual' TBC.
From my experience, you get a cleaner picture from the E50. The E60 would be the same. I would never touch a Philips recorder ever again. It's not worth the hassle of the numerous issues that plague the Philips recorders.
Good luck in your choice.
