  1. i recently purchased the pioneer A07D, which is a great burner. i'm able to copy from my hard drive at 8x using the Ritek G04 disks. i've been using the NEC ND1300A for the last year and a half. i use alcohol 120% to copy my dvd copies on the fly. i know that alot of people don't copy on the fly, but i've never had any problems . i could do it all the time with the 1300A at 4x, with no coasters. when i try to do it at 8x with the A07D, it only burns at 4x. i even tried nero 6, and i get the same result. my dvd rom is a 16x BTC BDV316C. i don't know if the dvd rom can't keep up with the burner or what! does anyone have any answers for me? please help!!! thanks

Are the 2 drives on the same IDE channel?

  3. Run a test and see if you can get a 8x rip to the harddrive from that btc from beginning to end. I'd bet not. I didn't have great experiences with BTC. Good Luck with Liteon 16X.

But even that doesn't hit more than 5+X on +RWs, it will hit upto 15x on single layer originals that are still in creampuff condition, no scratches fingerprints etc. And of course in testing at work the cheapo BTC 8X burner only hits around 5+X on originals.

The Toshiba M172 has a speed rip patch that allows upto 16x DVD-R ripping. You need good media to rip that fast though.

My Lite On 165 and 166 both top out at 8.x with DVD-R ripping. But if you write DVD+R with a DVD-ROM book type, it will go upto 16x with the Lite On drives.

Once again, you to have high quality media in order to be read at a high speed rate. If it is substandard grade, you could get a buffer under run near the 6x-8x speed switch. Test your read back speed with Nero's CD/DVD speed or something similar first.

The good thing is, most (all?) 8x burners start at 4x, then speed upto 8x at the end. Most current drives can sustain a 4x reading start. Both of my Lite On's start at 4.1-4.6x and go from there.
