well at least my dvd's have.........
i've been having this problem for sometime, i realised today, that all my dvd backups and avi files (that are 25fps PAL) are coming out a dream, ive narrowed it down to ntsc avi files (that are 23.97fps) i use the vdub - ffmpgui - tmpgenc plus - dvd author method.....seen as the sound is perfect still, and in sync, im guessing its something im doing wrong in tmpgenc before i convert these sorts of files - dvd.
here the settings ive been using (following a guide) in tmpgenc plus, for ntsc movies....
load avi file
load ntsc template
go to settings
unlock frame rate to 23.97
select constant bitrate
select 3.2 pulldown when playback
vid source - non interlaced progressive
1.1 vga
full screen
have i done soemthing wrong? cos the end result is a juddery ntsc - dvd

Try swapping the field order when you encode.

ill add my next question in here seen as it is related.......
4 of the dvds i have made are "juddery" because i have probably encoded wrong in tmpgenc, if i rip these 4 dvds i have made, would it be possible for me to fix this juddering? or is it there to stay now? by fix i mean is there anyway i can rip - and somehow run through tmpgenc again under the differant field option -
I always checked my stuff with sample clips so I never had to re-encode a whole video because of a field order issue, so I'd be guessing if I answered. I know I've seen mention of a header trick - a program that changes the field order info in the header. Maybe somebody else can help with that.

The simple answer is don't convert NTSC to PAL .Encode NTSC as NTSC and PAL as PAL. They play fine in pretty much all UK players.
BTW you cannot cure the juddering on ones you have already encoded , you need the original AVI end reencode as NTSC.
Framerate conversion looks very complicated and is unnecessary in UK.
